Creating Space in Daily Life

Sometimes in our day to day, we feel cooped up in a small space. When strong emotions arise, they consume our full attention. In between these emotions, we are wound up in anxious thinking and judging, bullied by stress, clouded by dullness, and so on. To cope with this, we often rely on external tools and distractions, instead of using our innate strength.

Imagine utilizing your own ability to establish distance from any of these states at any time. With spaciousness, reconnecting with innate peace is possible. With peaceful freedom, deep loving-kindness and compassion are possible. In his characteristic style, Phakchok Rinpoche will translate traditional Buddhist method and wisdom into simple conceptual techniques for creating space.

Born in 1981 as the son of Kyabje Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche and recognized at a young age, Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche is one of the throne-holders of the Riwoche Taklung Kagyu Lineage and a lineage holder of the Profound Treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa from the Nyingma School of Early Translations.

From a young age, Rinpoche received an abundance of transmissions, empowerments, and instructions from great masters such as Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Dudjom Rinpoche, Penor Rinpoche, and Trulshik Rinpoche. Moreover, from Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche, whom Phakchok Rinpoche considers his main root gurus, Rinpoche received direct instructions on the nature of mind. Rinpoche also received his Khenpo title (similar to a PhD) after completing within seven years the traditional nine-year curriculum of Buddhist philosophy at Dzongsar Institute of Advanced Buddhist Studies, in Bir, India.

Presently, Phakchok Rinpoche is abbot of several monasteries in Nepal, assists monasteries and practice centres in Tibet,  heads dharma centers in North America and Asia, and teaches widely at various around the world. He energetically oversees a wide range of humanitarian projects in South Asia through organizations such as the Chokgyur Lingpa Foundation and is also the Vajra Master of Ka-Nying Shedrup Ling Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Rinpoche’s teachings are direct, lively, and practical, with a strong emphasis on the view of the Great Perfection, the uncontrived non-conceptual meditation of Mahamudra, the tireless implementation of the Bodhisattva’s conduct, and the Mahayana’s teachings on wisdom and compassion.
