Movie Night! Women of Tibet – Gyalyum Chemo: The Great Mother
Women of Tibet: Gyalyum Chemo – The Great Mother is the first of a trilogy of films about Women of Tibet and recounts the life story of Dekyi Tsering, the mother of one of the world’s leading ambassadors for peace, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
During the course of her life, Tsering, known by Tibetans as “Gyalyum Chemo” or “Great Mother,” gave birth to 16 children, three of whom were recognized as incarnate lamas, or tulkus.
This story is uniquely Tibetan, yet it shares the same core qualities of all universal Great Mother stories: loss and resurrection, love and sacrifice, and the courage to survive.
Please come, bring your friends and enjoy this very fine film! We will offer a potluck supper, so please also bring something to eat or drink to help us celebrate the occasion!
All donations for Movie Night are shared equally between the Tenzin Gyatso Scholars Program and the New York City Rigpa Center, to meet local expenses.
May 31, 7pm
