Sparking, and Training in, Bodhichitta
Jeff DeLeo will be facilitating a class on Bodhichitta, “Sparking and Training in Bochicitta”, on Saturday October 15th from 10am to 2pm. Jeff has been a student of Sogyal Rinpoche since 1991, and an instructor for 14 years. Jeff completed the 3yr retreat at Lerab Ling. He is the retreat instructor for Tongnyi Nyingjé Ling, near Albany, where he lives.
Bodhichitta is the spirit, the source and the root of our entire spiritual path. It is, in the words of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the very highest form of altruism and the highest form of courage, the source of all our spiritual qualities and the essence of all the teachings of the Buddha.
The focus for this day is to go over the essential points to make bodhichitta spark and explode in our being! For those of us already practicing, or starting to practice Longchen Nyingtik Ngöndro, this of course relates to the practice of Bodhichitta. For those of us practicing meditation, this will serve as an essential introduction to Bodhichitta.
As a focus, a practice we can all relate to, which brings all these essential points together is “An Essential Practice for the Generation of Bodhichitta”. This will be the practice presented.
For those of you who are new to this topic, a very helpful preparation would be to read Chapter 12, “Compassion: The Wish-Fulfilling Jewel”, of the “Tibetan Book of Living and Dying”. More elaborately, you could also read the chapeter “Arousing Bodhichitta, the root of the Great Vehicle” from the “Words of My Perfect Teacher”.
As in our program from last month, “Practicing Refuge”, the focus of this course is on making sure everyone has what they need to actually engage in the practice.
Fees: $45. No one will be turned away for lack of funds – work/study available.
